Which Fencing Option Works for Protecting Exotic Livestock?

December 18, 2025
In parts of Montgomery County and Waller County, it isn't uncommon to see more than just cattle and horses. From emus and alpacas to exotic deer and antelope, protecting specialized livestock requires a fence that goes far beyond standard residential designs.

When dealing with exotic animals, the fence serves two purposes: keeping your investment in and keeping local predators (like coyotes or feral hogs) out. At Ark Fence Company, we customize our ranch and farm fencing to meet the specific height and strength requirements of your unique herd.

H2: High-Fence Solutions for Deer and Antelope

Exotic deer and certain antelope species are world-class jumpers. A standard 4-foot ranch fence is no obstacle for them. For these animals, we typically install 8-foot high-tensile fixed-knot fencing. This is the gold standard for exotic containment because the "fixed knot" prevents the wires from sliding, ensuring the fence maintains its structural integrity even if an animal runs into it.

H2: No-Climb Mesh for Alpacas and Emus

Smaller exotics often have different risks—specifically getting their heads or legs stuck in wide-gap fencing. For these animals, we recommend a 2" x 4" no-climb wire mesh. This spacing is too small for a hoof or a neck to penetrate, significantly reducing the risk of injury on the fence line.
